Rhayader's own website: www.rhayader.co.uk is well worth a visit. It lists lots of things to do during your stay and it lists a programme of special events which go on throughout the year. Below is just a selection of things to do during your stay.

 

Dry Weather Days

Walking - There are many lovely walks of varying lengths, strengths and landscapes. A favourite is the Elan Valley Walking and Cycling Trail which begins in Rhayader and takes you to the Elan Valley and its lakes. Another favourite is the Wye Valley Walk which can be picked up in Llanwrthwl - just a short walk from the Lodge over the bridge. Details of regular organized walks both in the daytime and in the evening can be found on Rhayader's website under 'Events'.

Parks - there are 2 lovely parks by the river in Rhayader where children can play and paddle.

Cycling - The Lodge is surrounded by National Cycle Network Trails details of which are in the cottage. We have a number of bikes for hire. If you bring your own bike you can store it in a bike stand in our secure cycle storage unit.  A jetwash for hosing bikes is also provided.

Fishing - There is a thriving Angling Association in Rhayader. There is fishing on the rivers Wye, Elan and Marteg and fly fishing on the Elan Valley Lakes. Shooting - The Mid Wales Shooting Centre is one of the premier clay target facilities in the UK.  It caters for the novice and expert shooter, providing a range of shooting facilities which include Trap and Skeet layouts and 18 Sporting Stands.  www.midwalesshootingcentre.com

Birdwatching - There are several reserves in the area the most wellknown being the Red Kite Centre at Gigrin Farm near Rhayader where kite and other hawks are fed daily. The Willow Globe open air theatre - made from willow wisps as its name suggests - is just across the road from the Lodge and is a scaled down version of the Globe in London, being a third of its size in diameter. Aberystwyth - if you fancy a trip to the seaside then Aberystwyth is the nearest seaside town being 32 miles away.

Elan Valley Visitor Centre - The Centre is now open all year round and throughout the year the rangers run a series of activities.
