When planning the conversion of the Vulcan Arms we were especially careful at the planning stage to make the cottages as friendly as possible for guests with disabilities and concentrated on the Middleton and Tudor cottages to do this. All of their rooms are on the ground floor and access into each is level.
This has one very large bedroom with a very large en suite wet room appropriately equipped. The bed will take a hoist and there is a bed settee which can be made up to accommodate a carer. The kitchen and living space are open plan. All of the floors are laminate and there is an electrically operated reclining chair which also tilts. The Tudor is situated right next to the tarmac car park and cars can be parked right outside the access door.
This has a very large open plan living/dining/kitchen area and wheelchairs can move round with ease on the laminate floor. The bedroom with a bed which will take a hoist is just across the hallway from the large, appropriately equipped wet room.
We have: a commode, a plastic shower chair, a plastic shower/commode chair, a shower stool, cutlery aids, ringed crockery, a magnifying reading light, a hand held battery operated alarm, a push wheelchair, an electric motability scooter. There is no charge for the use of this equipment except for the scooter which is £5 a day the same as we charge for bikes. Should there be any other equipment you need which we do not have it can be arranged to have it delivered to the cottage. However there is a charge for this and it is quite expensive.
More detail of accessibility can be found on our Access Statement page.
